Here are a few items you should note before you start creating your new
web:
Page Layout
This page has been very carefully formatted so that it resizes both vertically and horizontally
in Netscape and Internet Explorer. Do not
drag on any table lines - you may "freeze" the page so that it no
longer resizes properly. If you want to change percentages, please go
through Table Properties and change them there.
Logo Graphic
The logo graphic is currently 403w X 44h pixels (in case you want to keep the same look
for the page and avoid a lot of wasted space.) Simply name your logo
graphic file "logo.gif" and place it in the /images directory.
Your logo is now updated on all the pages!
Flash Movie
The Flash movie requires the Flash Player plug-in for browsers. The
movie is part of the shared top border of the web template, so if you
don't want the movie as part of the web site, you can delete it from any
page and it will be removed from all the pages on the site.
If you only want the Flash movie on your home page, but not on any
other pages in your web site, you will need to set the home page to not
use the top shared border and then delete the movie from the shared
border for the remaining pages. This may be a bit confusing, so here are
the step-by-step instructions:
- Open "index2.htm" and resave as "index.htm". This is your new home
page. The only difference between these two pages is that the latter
does not use the top shared border. This means you will have to
manually apply any changes you may have made to the top shared border
on the other site pages.
- Delete "index2.htm" from the Folder List.
- Open any page other than "index.htm".
- Select the movie file and delete.
- Save the page. Your site is now setup so that the home page is the
only page that uses the flash file.
Navigation Bars
Please note that the top bar uses the "top level" navigation
buttons. Any other type of navigation button will have green text, which
will not show up in the yellow bar. If you wish to change the navigation
buttons to a different type, you may wish to use text links, create your
own button graphics, or, if you use FP2002, create a text link style.
Testing
This web template has been tested with FrontPage 2000 & 2002. It has
also been tested in Netscape 6 and Internet Explorer 5+. All features
found here work in both versions of the browsers and the software.
Cascading Style Sheets
This web relies on Cascading Style Sheets. If you apply the theme without Cascading Style Sheets, the fonts
will be "normal" sized, and you may resize them yourself.
If you apply the theme with Cascading Style Sheets, your default font
will be 10pt. We also included a custom style called "infoheader" for
white text, to use in your info boxes for header text. Any changes you
make manually to the fonts will show up in Internet Explorer, but not in
some versions of Netscape.
Style sheets are a nice way to globally change properties of
paragraphs and text -- instead of having to go to each page and change
your text from 8pt to 10pt, you can just change the style sheet.
If you would like to define a new "style" (a certain way to display
text -- what font, size, color, etc.), you may modify the theme or
create new style information. For more information, see the
F.A.Q.s page.
Final Steps
If you need more questions answered, please take a look at the
F.A.Q.s page. Once you are done reading all the information on these
two pages or no
longer need them, you can
delete this page from the web site and it will automatically be removed from the navigation
bars. You may wish to recycle the F.A.Q.s for use on your own web site.
"index2.htm" can also be deleted (or moved to another directory outside
of the web directory, if you have no use for it.
If all your questions aren't answered, please feel free to
email me directly. Make sure to
tell me which template you are using.
